Details
Metrolinx are the Crown Agency of the Government of Ontario that manages and integrates public transport in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.
CostPro has been working with Metrolinx since January 2021. During our time with Metrolinx we have advised on more than 20 separate projects, totalling more than $2 billion in project value.
Our role is wide ranging and spans from Procurement to Claims. CostPro are repsonsible for leading Commercial Management on the Go Extensions Portfolio which is broken down into:
The Niagara Expansion program includes upgrades and improvements to infrastructure along the Lakeshore West Corridor, from Burlington/Hamilton to Niagara Falls. The scope consists of addition of new tracks, crossovers, switches and signals, cable relocations, upgrades to at-grade crossings and bridges, and a new layover. The program includes four projects: 119715 (Hamilton Junction Phase 1), 186706 (LSW Expansion from Burlington West to Confederation Station), 166450 (Stations and potential future scope for Niagara Expansion), and 205703 (Niagara Layover).
Bowmanville Project scope consists of implementation of new rail service from the existing Oshawa GO station to Bowmanville via the Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) Belleville Subdivision. This includes the addition of new tracks and signals, new and modified bridges, and modifications at the existing Oshawa GO station. This new Infrastructre services the four new stations, Thornton's Corner East Station, Ritson Road Station, Courtice Station, and Bowmanville Station however the construction of the stations are outside of the Project scope and are to be delivered under the Transit Oriented Communities (TOC) process.
Here are some of the improvements made to allow for more trips, more often on the Kitchener Line:
Construction of a second south platform at Guelph Central GO Station
A new storage track for maintenance vehicles west of Guelph
A new 2.6 kilometer passing track in Breslau (part of Woolwich Township) located between Guelph and Kitchener GO Stations, to allow trains travelling in opposite directions to pass each other.
Other phases of the Kitchener Extension project will include a passing track at Acton GO Station, a storage track for maintenance vehicles near Rockwood, a north platform extension at Guelph GO Station, expansion of the Shantz Station Road bridge and a further extension of the second track in Breslau to the east, as well as track re-alignments through the corridor.
